1.1. Where is Van Don Airport located?

Van Don Airport is a backup airport for Noi Bai Airport. Along with Cat Bi and Noi Bai airports, Van Don International Airport is one of the most important airports in the North.

1.2. History of Van Don Airport

a. Formation history:

• Construction of the airport in Van Don began in 2015
• The airport was put into operation on December 30, 2018.
• Van Don Airport is the first completely new airport built since 1975.
• According to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s standard code, Van Don Airport is a class 4E airport
• In February 2017, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc approved the adjustment of Van Don Airport to Van Don International Airport.
• The airport can accommodate 2.5 million passengers per year.

b. Scale, runway area:

• The airport covers an area of 345 hectares
• The airport has 7 large aircraft parking positions, 4 near parking areas and 3 far parking areas
• The airport has 1 runway with a size of 3,600m x 45m, oriented 03 – 21
• The terminal area is about 26,991m2
